Hello and Welcome to Meadowbrook Art Department!
We are excited for you to see the awesome art we are doing every day!

Second Grade Art Show
In the hallways near the Art Room until March 15

This month, our second grade artists are proud to share their Portraits, now on display in the hallway exhibition space near the art room ( beyond the gym!)
In this unit, students explored the idea that portraits can tell a story — not just about what we look like, but about who we are. Each student began by creating a list of their favorite things, interests, likes, and dislikes. From dragons and soccer to favorite snacks and beloved pets, these personal details became the inspiration for imaginative visual storytelling within their self-portraits.
Students worked through an authentic artistic process, beginning with a first draft on paper before moving to a final composition on canvas. They learned how artists revise ideas, refine details, and translate sketches into finished works using acrylic paint and mixed media. Throughout the project, students practiced organizing their workspace, caring for materials, and developing craftsmanship — skills that are essential in any creative endeavor.
Most importantly, this project encouraged students to make meaningful connections between their own lives and their artwork. By combining self-reflection with artistic technique, our second graders created portraits that are both visually dynamic and deeply personal. We invite you to take time to view the exhibition and celebrate the creativity, thoughtfulness, and individuality of our young artists.
